About
“I became a therapist because I believe everybody deserves to live a life from which they do not need to escape”
Why I became a therapist
We are all humans doing our best to survive. Sometimes we need a little help. That's where I come in. For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for justice. As I got older, I realized that those who have to deal with injustices-systemic, familial, ect.,- need help to process the things that have happened to them. They deserve to live a fulfilling life. I became a therapist because I believe everybody deserves to live a life from which they do not need to escape. This starts with a healthy mental state. As a black, queer, young, single mother of two, I struggled to find a therapist I could relate to and who understood the hurt that comes along with systemic oppression and discrimination. Being a minority added a layer of complexity and oftentimes a barrier to treatment. I became a therapist to break this barrier and eliminate the stigma around mental health in marginalized communities.
Who I work with
I work with adolescents, adults, and couples of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. I utilize a trauma-focused lens to help you feel safe, see events from different perspectives, and understand ways in which the trauma you have experienced is shaping your current reality. By working together, you will understand that your feelings are valid. Together, we will achieve improved mental health. I enjoy working with those who struggle with C-PTSD/ PTSD, anxiety, depression, religious and purity trauma, and cultural/generational trauma, paying attention to how it shows up in the body and how movement aids in processing these experiences. My life, educational, and career experiences give me a unique and compassionate lens to help you navigate life and reach your goals.
