Why I became a therapist

From my own experiences with navigating mental health in a world built for people who do not look like me, I know how important it is to have a safe space to feel heard, validated, supported and understood. I recognize the need to be seen for who you truly are and be met with acceptance. I believe that creating a collaborative relationship with compassion, empathy, and understanding is key to feeling empowered to navigate all of life’s challenges. As a therapist, I aim to create a non-judgemental space for clients to show up as they are, feel safe to explore, and develop insight into how they can reach their full potential. Who I work with

I specialize in working with families, teens, young adults, and adults of the LGBTQIA+, Latine, and BIPOC communities. I provide trauma informed care to those struggling with relational difficulties, anxiety, depression, C-PTSD, generational/intergenerational trauma, identity development, family of origin and attachment issues, racial trauma and historical trauma, systemic issues, and life transitions. I use a cultural perspective to explore and address the effects of racism, historical trauma, migration, and identity on one’s mental health and well-being. As a result, I am passionate about helping individuals who sit at the intersection of various marginalized identities on their mental health journey.

Working With Me

My approach to therapy is rooted in the psychodynamic and person centered approaches. I believe exploring past experiences, relationships and uncovering the patterns we build are extremely powerful when trying to heal. I show up to the session as my authentic self and I hope you as my client will feel comfortable to do as well. I strive to create a safe, empathetic, and open environment. I take a collaborative approach to therapy and work to build a strong therapeutic relationship to provide corrective experiences and come from a place of acceptance and understanding. As my client, you are the expert on yourself, your world, and your experiences. My role is to help you navigate your experience while also providing an outside perspective. I also believe that humor can be a very powerful tool for healing and encourage lots of laughter on your journey of health and wellbeing!

My Qualifications and trainings

  • I completed my undergraduate studies in Applied Psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago;
  • I received my Masters of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from DePaul University;
  • In my free time, I eat ramen and longingly look at adoptable dogs and cats on adoption webpages.
